Prof Shem O Wandiga, a retired Professor of Chemistry at the University of Nairobi, is an accomplished researcher with interests spanning biogenic gases, pesticides, trace metals, metal-ligand complexes, climate change, and health. He served as Acting Director of the Institute for Climate Change and Adaptation. He led significant projects like the GEF-funded assessment of climate change impact on malaria and cholera vulnerability in the Lake Victoria Region, as well as a project integrating climate change adaptation into sustainable development planning in East and South Africa. Prof Wandiga holds a Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University. He received the UNESCO Medal Prize in 2015 and holds the EBS Order of the Elder of Burning Spear. His career includes roles such as Deputy Vice Chancellor, negotiator for a World Bank credit, and elected representative to the UNESCO Executive Board. He is a Fellow of several scientific organizations and has authored numerous publications, presentations, books, and reports. Prof Wandiga's contributions extend to national and international committees, consultancies, and chairing scientific bodies. Prof Wandiga is known for his impactful work on hazardous chemicals and pesticides, earning recognition from the Government of Kenya.
