Lieutenant General (Rtd) Lazaro Kipkirui Sumbeiywo is a retired senior military officer with over 35 years of service. Lt Gen (Rtd) Sumbeiywo attended the prestigious Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, United Kingdom. He rose through the ranks to become Kenya Army Commander in 2000, the hallmark of military service undertaken with honor, passion, professionalism, and great distinction. General received international acclaim over his role as the Chief mediator in the Sudan Peace Process. He reconciled positions presented by the two leaders of the Government of Sudan, Omar Hassan Al-Bashir, and the late Colonel John Garang, leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A). These efforts culminated with the end of two decades of conflict. His mediation efforts were integral to the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) on January 9th, 2005. He was involved in the Agreement to Resolve the Crisis in South Sudan (ARCSS) 2015.
