Dr K O Asembo is the Acting Executive Director and the Associate Director of Research, Policy and Communication. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Centre’s flagship publication, The Influential Bulletin and The Eastern Africa Influential Journal of Policy and Strategy. In his 27 years’ experience in training, research, and policy advisory, he has consulted on public policy issues for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)-Eastern Africa, British High Commission, Refugee Consortium of Kenya (RCK), Women in Law and Development in Africa (WILDAF), Ministry of Education, National Police Service -Kenya, Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons, East African Standby Force Command (EASF) and Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB). He has also participated in joint development and implementation of public policy programmes with the Embassy of the United States of America and the British High Commission -Kenya. He has previously undertaken international assignments in USA, South Africa, Rwanda, Burundi, Sweden, Sri Lanka, India and Egypt. In particular, he participated in the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty negotiations in New York, USA. He hosted the 2022 GLOCEPS’ inaugural Conference on regional peace and security themed on “The future of state stability and development in Eastern Africa” and the 2023 Annual Conference themed on Shaping the Future of Climate Change Action Plans for Sustainable development in Eastern Africa. Dr. Asembo is an adjunct faculty at the United States International University–Africa. He holds a doctorate degree from the University of South Africa, a Master's Degree from Kenyatta University and a Bachelor's Degree from Egerton University. He is also fellow of the International Law Enforcement Academy (USA). His research interests are in security sector reforms; regional development; foreign policy, governance and ethics, disarmament and peacebuilding; transnational organized crimes; curriculum studies, higher education, policing and counter-terrorism. He has published several articles in peer reviewed journals.
