About Me

Amb Maalim is a Kenyan diplomat and a rural development expert. He is a highly experienced professional in the Horn of Africa, with extensive experience in leadership positions. In recognition of his exemplary service, he received prestigious presidential awards, including the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) and the Chief of Burning Spear of Kenya (CBS). Amb Maalim has made a substantial impact locally and internationally. He is the immediate and longest-serving Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). He previously served as the Permanent Secretary of two government ministries, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the Ministry of Special Programmes in the Office of the President. Amb Maalim previously served as the Board Chair of Kenya Power and Lighting Company. He currently chairs the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology Council. Amb Maalim holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University College, USA. He is a registered Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya.
